Just seven weeks after it’s release, Blake Shelton’s “Honey Bee” has already made history. The single has gone digital gold, making it the fasting rising ever to sell over 500,000 digital copies by a male country vocalist. “Honey Bee” is Shelton’s fastest rising single to date and is currently at No. 8 on the country music charts. It can be found on his album, “Red River Blue,” which will be available July 12th.
“Honey Bee” is following three consecutive No. 1 singles for Shelton, including “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking,” “All About Tonight” and “Hillbilly Bone.” Shelton is the reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year. His last album was “LOADED: The Best of Blake Shelton.” It debuted in the Top Ten, making him part of elite group of artists, such as Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney and Alan Jackson, to chart three albums in one year. Shelton has had eight No. 1 hit songs and has not had a single peak outside of the Top Ten since 2007.
NBC is giving the second season of “The Voice” a super lead-in.
The peacock network will air the reality TV singing contest – which in its inaugural season features Oklahoma country music star Blake Shelton, hip-hop standout Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and pop diva Christina Aguilera as its four celebrity vocal coaches – after the Super Bowl in February.
An hourlong episode will air Sunday, Feb. 5 following the network’s telecast of Super Bowl XLVI, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“There is no better showcase on television than to follow the Super Bowl, and we believe The Voice is deserving of such high-profile exposure,” announced Bob Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, Tuesday in a statement. “The attention grabbing blind audition phase of ‘The Voice’ has mass appeal and will fittingly team up with the biggest sporting event of the year.”
According to the trade publication, it hasn’t been determined whether the post-Super Bowl episode will be the season premiere. This season, the initial blind audition episodes were two hours long.
Of course, this is assuming that there is a 2012 Super Bowl.
There’s uncertainty over the coming year’s NFL schedule because of a labor dispute that led to the team owners’ lockout of players. A federal court hearing on the issue was scheduled this week, according to the Associated Press.
“The Voice” is the 2010-11 season’s top freshman series in the key adults 18-49 demographic, according to The Hollywood Reporter, ranking behind “American Idol” among new and returning series on all broadcast networks. Season-to-date, the music competition series averages a 5.4 rating and 12 million viewers.
The Mark Burnett-produced series aired its last “battle round” episode tonight, and the live episodes will start next Tuesday, June 7. Look for my new interview with Shelton about the show then.
According to the trade pub, NBC has slated the second round of “The Voice” for midseason as a two-hour lead-in to “Smash,” a drama about the making of a Broadway musical, on Monday nights.

Nashville, Tennessee – Country superstars Reba and Blake Shelton raised $500,000 for victims of recent tornados in Atoka County, OK during two sold-out “Tornado Relief Concerts” at the Choctaw Events Center in Durant on May 25 and 26. Susie McEntire-Eaton and Kelly Clarkson made a surprise guest appearance at the May 26 relief show.
The proud Okies did not disappoint, entertaining for over two hours each night and giving their hometown friends support, songs and of course – some comedic banter. The pair co-headlined the event, opening with a duet of “Oklahoma Swing.” Armored with humor, they took turns belting out hits – occasionally harmonizing between songs and jokes – on Reba’s “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” “Why Haven’t I Heard From You,” “Turn on the Radio” and “Consider Me Gone,” as well as Shelton’s “All About Tonight,” “Goodbye Time,” “Hillbilly Bone” and “Some Beach.” The duo also showcased their current singles “When Love Gets a Hold of You” (Reba) and “Honey Bee” (Blake Shelton). Reba and Shelton sent their dedicated audience home with a sense of optimism and an encore. Performing alone for the first time all evening, Shelton performed “Ol’ Red” before Reba made her solo appearance for “Fancy.”
Initially, news of the disaster prompted the stars to reach out with one fundraising event, but when it sold out in less than two hours, they announced a second show. Reba was born just outside of Kiowa, which is approximately 30 miles away from the greatest devastation. Shelton was born in Ada and currently resides in Tishomingo, less than 50 miles from the Atoka County border. All proceeds from both shows, as well as generous donations from The Choctaw Nation and fans, will go towards Atoka County’s ongoing relief efforts through the Tushka Disaster Relief Fund.
In addition to the proceeds already raised, a special mobile fundraising campaign has been set up with The mGive Foundation. Fans can text “OKGIVE” to 27722 to make a one-time $10 donation, which will be added to their monthly cell phone bill. Checks can also be made out to the Tushka Disaster Relief Fund and mailed to: 101 SE 1st Street, Tushka, OK 74525.
